RFK Jr. signals he’s open to running as Libertarian in 2024

Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has indicated he is open to running as a Libertarian Party candidate in 2024 as he continues his quest to get on the ballot in all 50 states in November.

During an appearance on CNN on Saturday morning, Kennedy was asked by anchor Michael Smerconish whether he planned to seek the Libertarian Party’s nomination, although he is running as an independent to ensure he can vote in all 50 states and Washington, D.C. .

Kennedy said he has a “very good” relationship with the Libertarian Party and may speak at the party’s California convention in the near future, saying he is open to that possibility.

“That’s something we’re considering,” Kennedy said Saturday. “We have a very good relationship with the Libertarian Party. I’m going to speak at the California Libertarian Convention, I think next week or a few weeks from now. And we have a very good relationship with the Libertarian Party. We’re talking about that.”

In response, Kennedy added that his campaign has filed paperwork to form its own party in six states to enhance voting access with fewer signatures.

“And now six states have their own political parties, and there are rules that make it advantageous to have your own political party,” Kennedy said.

Two weeks ago, the Kennedy campaign began forming a “We the People” party with the “Texas Independence Party” in North Carolina, Hawaii, Delaware and California, making it clear that Kennedy would win the election with far fewer signatures in those six states. I was able to participate.

After Kennedy’s response, Smerconish played audio of a podcast in which Libertarian Party Leader Angela McArdle mentioned her good relationship with independent candidates.

President Kennedy acknowledged they had had a dialogue and agreed with “most” of the party’s ideals.

“Yeah, well, we’re talking to the Libertarian Party, and I’m very comfortable with most of the values of the Libertarian Party,” Kennedy said. “We have a good relationship. I speak to liberal organizations regularly. So we will continue to negotiate.”

Kennedy has recently been running as an independent candidate for the White House, and if he maintains strong voting numbers in battleground states such as Georgia and Arizona, he is likely to become the Republican nominee. This raised concerns among Democrats that the election could tilt toward the president. It is difficult for all candidates to win.

Kennedy is eligible to appear on the ballot in New Hampshire, the second state after Utah, and will be an independent candidate in the general election.
