Advocacy group for retirees endorses Biden in reelection bid

Grassroots groups that advocate for retired Americans endorsed President Biden for re-election Tuesday, citing his accomplishments benefiting seniors during his first term.

Board of Directors of the nonprofit Alliance of Retired Americans group The organization, founded by the AFL-CIO and with more than 4 million members, voted to formalize the recognition on Tuesday, according to a release provided exclusively to The Hill.

“This election is all about seniors,” Alliance President Robert Roach Jr. said in a statement to The Hill. “Our members know how to get things done, talking to friends and family about Biden and Harris’ records, making phone calls, knocking on doors, and letting people know when and where to vote. They’re the president. “I will work hard every day to keep the Vice President in the White House.”

The alliance and its leaders cited Biden’s record to justify their support. Biden signed the Inflation Control Act in 2022, allowing the government to negotiate lower prices for Medicare-covered drugs and capping the cost of insulin.

Roach also noted the White House’s continued efforts to fight junk fees to reduce costs for Americans and give companies more transparency in pricing.

In his budget proposal released last year, Biden also called for tax increases on Americans making more than $400,000 a year to keep Medicare solvent.

“He’s a proven leader. Someone we know will support us and is never going to cut Social Security,” Linda Somo, president of the Alliance’s Arizona chapter, said in an interview. “We can trust him to be our advocate.”

Elderly people are seen as some of the most reliable voters in presidential elections, making them an important voting group for Biden and his likely Republican rival, former President Trump.

More than 900,000 of ARA’s 4.4 million members live in Arizona, Florida, Michigan, Nevada, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin, and each state is expected to be a battleground state in November.

Biden’s supporters believe he has a strong list of accomplishments that will appeal to older people, but his approval ratings among that group remain low.a Pew Research Center A poll released last week found that 37 percent of Americans 65 and older approve of Biden’s job performance.

And Democrats worry that the White House has struggled to effectively sell its agenda to voters, leaving many unclear whether Biden’s actions are helping to lower drug prices. I’ve been concerned for several months.

Trump, the likely front-runner for the Republican presidential nomination, is similarly making a tough pitch to senior voters. He attacked his main rival, Nikki Haley, over her proposal to raise the retirement age to preserve Social Security.

President Trump has vowed to protect Social Security and Medicare and warned Republican lawmakers against changes to the programs. Reductions were included.

“President Biden, a Scranton native, wakes up every day and works hard to make life better for working people. “This includes fulfilling our deep-rooted commitment to care for the people of the world.” “And when it comes to Donald Trump and the extreme MAGA Republicans’ attacks on Social Security and Medicare, President Biden isn’t just hitting back at them. He’s currently working to strengthen these programs.” The more than 4 million Retired Americans Alliance members are critical to victory on the moon, and President Biden is honored to have their support.”
