The Rangers’ bye period will officially turn into All-Star break on Thursday when the NHL shuts down for a weekend of festivities in Toronto.
And even though there’s no expectation that GM Chris Drury will make a deal for a center during this hiatus in the season, it’s possible that the Blueshirts could conveniently fill the void left by Filip Sitil following a season-ending concussion. There are certainly hopes that it will move forward. The symptoms (Why are you shy?) have arisen.
If a deal is finalized between now and Sunday (the rest of the league won’t necessarily operate on the Rangers’ schedule), it would be the club’s first trade during the NHL All-Star hiatus in 34 years.
And it was a blockbuster. This was born out of a template that has existed forever on Broadway, in which the Blueshirts sacrificed two bright young stars in favor of a star past their prime. It was a deal that a winning team could make right now.
