Baby Dies of Fentanyl Overdose in Florida, Mother Arrested

A Florida mother is in custody after her 9-month-old boy died of a fentanyl overdose in October, according to the Ocala Police Department.

Department store announced On Monday, it was reported on social media that Casey Kincaid, 33, was charged with aggravated manslaughter in connection with the baby’s death. Mr. Kincaid was arrested on January 24th.

The investigation began on Oct. 12, when Ocala police officers responded to Advent Health about the boy, who was later pronounced dead. Police said the cause of the baby’s death was unknown at the time, but Kincaid was found to have 5 grams of fentanyl in his possession.

When detectives attempted to interview her, “she appeared to be under the influence of drugs and alcohol and was unable to continue a conversation,” police said. Detectives then obtained a search warrant to submit Kincaid for a blood test, and Kincaid was arrested on a charge of felony human trafficking.

A subsequent report from the Medical Examiner’s Office found that the baby died from the cause.Entanyl, methamphetamine, and xylazine toxicity.

“MS. Mr. Kincaid’s blood sample also contained fentanyl, among other substances. Five grams of fentanyl found in Mr. Kincaid’s possession was tested and found in the child’s blood during an autopsy. “The results showed the presence of the same xylazine compound,” the agency said. “Det. Khan continued to investigate and ultimately determined there was sufficient probable cause to arrest Kincaid for the child’s death. ”

During the investigation, law enforcement interviewed relatives who lived with Kincaid. Relatives reportedly returned home that day to find Kincaid drunk and asleep in bed.

“Relatives said the baby was in bed with Kincaid and appeared to be sleeping peacefully at the time. Police said the two had an argument about Kincaid’s drinking, and then a relative went to his room and the baby was there,” WFTV9 said. report. “Police say a relative went to move the baby and said the baby was ‘stiff,’ at which point they attempted CPR and took her to the hospital.”

Kincaid was booked into the Marion County Jail and is being held without bond, the report said.
