Former Biden rival says Trump wins if election held today, accuses DNC of stifling democracy

Former Democratic presidential candidate Andrew Yang spoke to Fox News Digital this week in South Carolina, where he is campaigning to run in Democratic Rep. Dean Phillips’ primary run against President Biden, and said the election will be held today. He said that if he did so, former President Trump would win.

“There are a lot of voters who are quite negative about Joe Biden, including independents in Wisconsin, Arizona, Georgia, and Michigan,” Yang told Fox. That’s what we should be focusing on.” This week’s news digital. “But most Democratic insiders are content to basically say Joe, Joe, Joe, regardless of the numbers.”

“I had a conversation like that in South Carolina the last few days where people actually came up to me and said, do you really think Joe is going to lose to Trump? “Not only could he lose to Trump, but if the election were held today, he would lose to Trump, and the poll numbers overall are getting worse, not better.”

Yang told Fox News Digital that he had “very enlightening conversations with South Carolina primary voters” while campaigning for Phillips in the Palmetto State, but that “some of the most poignantly debated content was… “One was whether Joe Biden was well-positioned to win in November.”

Yang said the voters were all “middle-aged African-American women” and that “half the table” didn’t think Biden was well-positioned to win.

“I happen to agree with half of that,” Yang said.

Yang also harshly criticized the DNC, saying the nomination process was not promoting “democracy.”

“The most extreme thing the DNC did to suppress democracy was canceling primaries in Florida and North Carolina and attempting to cancel primaries in other states and two states,” Yang said. he said. “I mean, it’s ridiculous to be talking about defending democracy on the one hand and literally canceling primaries on the other. So if Democrats want to practice democracy, that requires debate. We need a truly competitive primary that gives people a choice.. ”

Yang continued, “If the Democratic Party had a truly competitive primary, for example, leaders would say to people like Gavin Newsom, Gretchen Whitmer, and J.B. Pritzker, please run. That would give us a real candidate as opposed to this.”In my view, this coronation threatens to take us directly back to President Trump.”

Asked why prominent Democrats, including those who ran for president with Yang in 2020, haven’t been more vocal about their concerns about Biden’s candidacy, Yang said, It was likened to a coronation ceremony.

“If you look at the Democratic candidates in 2020, so many of them are either in the Biden administration or are effectively in the Biden administration that Democrats elected in Washington, and they’re saying to everyone in the Democratic Party, ‘No way. “No,” was the message. You should challenge Joe for fear of your career,” Yang said.

“Many Democrats are positioning themselves for 2028, including Gavin Newsom, who was in South Carolina in recent days and said, ‘I’m going to listen to the establishment and wait four years.’ ‘And you risk throwing the country into Trump, who is beating Joe Biden in almost every national poll and in every key battleground state.’ So it’s a mixture of self-interest and conformity. I think it’s something like that,” Yang continued.

“That’s what keeps a lot of people out of Joe’s way,” he added. “That’s one of the reasons I admire Dean Phillips so much for doing what he thought was right for the country, even though there were a lot of people in his party telling him not to.”

Dean Phillips won about 20% of the vote in the New Hampshire primary, where President Biden wasn’t on the ballot, and 63.9% as a write-in candidate, which Yang called “surprisingly.” It’s wonderful.”

“This was a great accomplishment and a clear sign of Joe Biden’s desire for a competitive primary,” Yang said.
