If the year ended today, the Lakers would be the No. 9 seed in the West and would need to win two single-elimination games to earn the right to play the No. 1 seed in a best-of-seven series in the first round.
The Lakers certainly look ready right now. Of course, the Lakers pulled off a trade deadline miracle last season to save the season and put them four wins away from the NBA Finals. Is there another move the Lakers can make this year to right the ship? James seemed to be thinking just that in his postgame remarks following the Hawks’ loss. James seemed at a loss after the loss.

The Lakers have several options as the Feb. 8 trade deadline approaches. If Los Angeles wants to make a big move by trading away a 2029 first-round draft pick, they could target Zach LaVine of the Chicago Bulls or Dejounte Murray of the Atlanta Hawks.Chase toronto raptors Guard Bruce Brown is another option that could be a little cheaper.
If that doesn’t work out, the Lakers can always fire head coach Darvin Ham. This season will drive Lakers fans to the brink of insanity..
There aren’t many cards left for James to play. The Lakers’ once-elite defense has declined significantly since winning the championship in the bubble. The offense is losing the math game by not getting to the three-point line every night, as they rank 28th in three-point percentage. The lineup selection was interesting to say the least. James is still a good player at age 39, but he carried his team every night for all 82 games and won’t be able to do the same in the playoffs.
The Lakers have a lot of problems, but there are no easy solutions. LA has reportedly rejected the idea of trading LaVine all year, but having another rim-pressure threat and knockdown shooter in the lineup would definitely help. For now, the Lakers are waiting. Just don’t expect James to be patient.
