Poll finds better economic ratings, but Biden approval flat

President Biden’s approval ratings remain unimproved, despite new polling showing Americans feel slightly better about the economy.

35% of Americans said the economy is in good shape. inside A survey conducted last month by The Associated Press and NORC Center for Public Affairs Research. This is a slight increase from the 30% who said the same in December and an increase from the 24% who said the same in January 2023.

A majority of adults (65%) think the economy is poor, down from 69% who said the economy is poor in December.

There were also large partisan differences in views on the economy, with 58% of Democrats and 15% of Republicans saying the economy was doing well. These numbers are up from December, when 53% of Democrats said it was good, compared to just 8% of Republicans.

Polls show that although economic indicators are rising, Biden’s approval rating remains below 40%. About 38% of respondents said they approve of Biden’s overall performance, and Biden’s approval rating has remained that way over the past year.

About 35% of respondents approve of the president’s handling of the economy, the poll said, about the same as last month.

About 70% of Democrats approve of his overall job performance, while only 7% of Republicans say the same. On the economy, 65% of Democrats and 7% of Republicans approved of his response.

The poll found that younger Democrats are more likely to disapprove of Biden’s overall job performance and handling of the economy. Fifty-three percent of Democrats ages 18 to 39 approved of his overall job performance, compared to 78% of Democrats ages 40 and older.

Young Democrats are also more likely to disapprove of Biden’s economic policies, with 44% of 18- to 39-year-olds saying they approve of his policies. More than 75% of people over the age of 40 responded similarly.

The poll was conducted among 1,152 adults between January 25 and January 29, and has a margin of error of 4 percentage points.
