A tampon dispenser in the boys’ restroom at a high school in Connecticut was pulled out and destroyed after less than 30 minutes.
To comply with state law, Brookfield High School installed a menstrual products dispenser in the boys’ restroom at 9:30 a.m. on Jan. 24. By 9:52 a.m., the school’s principal, Mark Baranda, said the dispenser had been vandalized and ripped from the wall.
In an email to the school, Barranda wrote that she was “disgusted” and “disappointed” by the behavior. “I know the law says ‘men’s restroom,’ but today’s acts that led to vandalism and vandalism were the work of immature boys, not men,” he said.

Barranda added that the tampon dispenser will be reinstalled at a later date in accordance with state law. He said that prior to this incident, there had been instances in both the men’s and women’s restrooms where “the fittings on the cubicle doors had been broken, soap containers had been torn off the walls, and various items had been stuffed into the toilets.” He said there was.
Brookfield Schools Superintendent John Burrill also told Hearst Connecticut Media that the situation was “addressed” due to the student’s involvement. He declined to provide details of any disciplinary action, but acknowledged that police were not involved.
“This is a matter of property damage and destruction,” he said. “Typically, law enforcement does not engage in property damage/vandalism unless it is a higher level of vandalism. The school is seeking restitution.”
