Video shows a crazy scene during a wrestling match at a New Jersey high school where student-athletes got into a violent scuffle with their parents during the match.
Around 1:30 p.m. Sunday, wrestlers were competing in a wrestling championship at Phillipsburg High School.
During a game between a Phillipsburg youth team and a High Point team vying for a youth championship, an argument between parents broke out and emotions flared. According to a video that went viral, parents in the stands were making a fuss while the high school wrestlers were competing.
NJ.com “According to the video, the fight started between two men, with shouting and shoving. Then the bleachers disappeared and people started pulling, pushing and shoving each other. One person was in the head. He is seen being kicked.”
The video shows other parents getting into a physical confrontation, including punching each other and trying to break up the fight.
An anonymous parent said lehigh valley live At least one child was “hit during the fight,” police said.
After the scuffle, police removed the wrestlers’ parents from the gym.
It is unclear whether anyone was injured or charged in the fight.
The scuffle reportedly caused the league to cancel the remaining games.
Middle school students from 5th to 8th grade participate in this league.
The New Jersey Grade School League Individual Wrestling Championships are scheduled to be held Sunday at Hunterdon Central High School, but officials are unsure how the suspension will affect the championships.
Warren County Prosecutor James Pfeiffer said his office is “not very involved” in the case.
Lopatcong County Police Chief Jason Garcia did not return messages to Lehigh Valley Live asking whether his department is investigating the dispute.
Phillipsburg’s youth wrestling coach also did not respond to a request for comment about the violent situation.
