Vance questions New York verdicts against Trump, with jurors from ‘extremely left-wing jurisdictions’

Sen. J.D. Vance (R-Ohio) on Sunday threw out the New York sexual assault and defamation verdict against former President Trump, citing jury taint from a “far-left jurisdiction.” argued that it should be done.

A judge last month ruled that President Trump must pay $83.3 million for defamation to author E. Jean Carroll, a similar verdict against him in the 1990s after he was found responsible for sexual assault. This is the second case since.

The senator argued on ABC’s “This Week” that the lawsuit against Trump is nothing more than a political attack aimed at hurting the former president’s 2024 election chances.

“This lawsuit, like many of the lawsuits against Donald Trump, is a trumped-up,” Vance said. “They are under a very left-wing jurisdiction. The Biden administration is actually prosecuting his biggest political opponent.”

“These cases are all too often funded by left-wing donors, and these are cases that are clearly funded with the intent of causing harm. [Trump] Politically, it’s not about seeking justice for a particular group of individuals,” he continued.

Mr. Vance defended Mr. Trump, saying the alleged political nature of the case “should cast doubt” on the legal conclusions.

Trump made similar comments last month slamming the defamation ruling.

“Absolutely ridiculous!” he said. real social posts. “I completely disagree with both rulings and intend to challenge the entire Biden-led witch hunt focused on me and the Republican Party. Our legal system is out of control and being used as a political weapon. They took away all my First Amendment rights. This is not America!”
