Jim Harbaugh expected to reunite with Greg Roman on Chargers coaching staff: report

Former Baltimore Ravens offensive coordinator Greg Roman is expected to be hired in a “prominent location,” according to NFL media, as manager Jim Harbaugh looks to add a close friend to his new staff with the Los Angeles Chargers. is.

According to NFL Network, the Chargers are still “finalizing the details” of Roman’s position on Harbaugh’s staff.

But Roman and Harbaugh have a long history, so this is a reunion.

First, it was at Stanford University that Roman served as Harbaugh’s associate head coach with the Cardinal. Harbaugh then joined the San Francisco 49ers, and Roman followed, serving as his offensive coordinator from 2011 to 2014.

San Francisco was thriving at the time, appearing in multiple NFC Championship Games and making it to the Super Bowl in 2012.

That Super Bowl was a meeting of the Harbaugh brothers as John’s Ravens faced off against Jim’s 49ers.

After Harbaugh returned to his alma mater, the University of Michigan, to become head coach, Roman remained in the NFL, serving as the Buffalo Bills’ offensive coordinator.

He stayed there for two seasons before becoming an offensive assistant with the Carolina Panthers and Houston Texans.

In 2019, Roman joined John Harbaugh as the Ravens’ offensive coordinator, where he remained for four seasons until resigning in 2023 after the team lost to the Cincinnati Bengals in the wild-card round.

Jim Harbaugh continues to build his coaching staff as he prepares for his return to the NFL. He already has a new GM to work with, Joe Hortis.

It’s no secret that the Chargers’ offense, led by Justin Herbert, could improve under Harbaugh. Bringing in a more experienced, offensive-minded coach would do well to continue his development as the Chargers look to start the Harbaugh era the right way.
