LA dognapper nabbed after stealing French bulldog in frightening scene that left owner clinging to hood of car: cops

A Los Angeles dog depredator whose French bulldog owner was caught on video desperately running away clinging to the hood of a car has been arrested, police said.

Los Angeles police arrested Sadie Slater, 21, of Inglewood on Saturday in connection with the dog theft and set bail at $70,000. ABC7 reported.

It was not immediately clear whether the dog, a black merle French bulldog with a spotted coat and different colored eyes named Onyx, was found or returned to its owner.

The brazen daytime dog nap occurred on January 18th, around 2:30 p.m., when Onyx’s owner, Ari Zacharias, was enjoying lunch with his pup at Whole Foods at Grand Avenue and 8th Street when a stranger spotted him. It started when a woman started calling for her onyx dog.

The unknown woman then grabbed Onyx’s lead and they started walking together, Zacharias told local news outlets. KTLA At first she thought it was a mistake.

“I had no idea someone was stealing my dog,” Zacharias said. She said, “I thought it was a misunderstanding, so I said, “That’s my dog.” I said, “I’m sorry,” but she wasn’t listening. ”

The robbers then got into a getaway car that was waiting nearby. Zacharias tried to get into the car, but four other people were crammed inside. They pushed her out and locked her door, she said.

Zacharias panicked and moved to the front of the car, screaming for help, but “no one came,” he said.

“The next thing I knew, a car hit me and I fell on the hood,” she told the outlet.

Witness Harrison Pesce, who captured footage of the terrifying ordeal, said he was walking down the street when he heard screeching tires and a woman screaming. Then, as Zacharias was clinging to the hood for dear life, he saw a white car fly down the street.

“It was scary,” Zacharias recalled. “as [the driver] It started getting faster and faster and I was like, “I’m about to die.” This is my death. right now. I’m about to die. ” ”

The suspects drove for several blocks with Zacharias on top of the hood, then made a sharp turn and violently threw her to the ground.

She reported the incident to the Los Angeles Police Department, which searched the area for surveillance footage of the robbery and escape.

Police say the vehicle is described as a new white Kia Forte sedan with a missing front hubcap on the driver’s side.

Authorities released a photo at the time of the suspect, a woman wearing a gray hoodie and purple sweatpants. It is unclear whether it is Slater.

At least the other suspect is believed to be a man in his mid-20s.

Currently the most popular dog in the country, French bulldog puppies typically cost more than $1,000.
