House Republican Leaders Declare Senate Establishment Migration Bill ‘Dead on Arrival’

House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA), House Minority Leader Steve Scalise (R-LA), House Republican Conference Chair Elise Stefanik (R-NY), and House Majority Leader Tom Emmer. (R-Minn.) said Monday that the “border” bill would be a “waste of time.”

House Republican leaders said in a written statement:

House Republicans oppose the Senate immigration bill because it fails in every policy area necessary to secure the border and would actually encourage more illegal immigration.

Among its many flaws, the bill expands work permits for illegal aliens but fails to include important asylum reforms. Worse, the language allowing illegal aliens to be “released from custody” would effectively support Biden’s “catch and release” policy.

The bill’s so-called “shutdown” powers are riddled with loopholes that give Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas too much discretion and demonstrate that he intends to use any means necessary to protect the border against the law. Open.

The bill also fails to adequately deter the president’s abuse of parole powers and provides taxpayer funds to board undocumented immigrants on planes and house them in hotels through FEMA’s Shelter and Services Program. It stipulates that

The House of Representatives took the lead nine months ago and passed the Secure Borders Act (HR2) as President Biden refuses to use broad executive powers to end the border disaster he has caused. . This bill contains the elements needed to actually stem the flow of illegal aliens and end the current crisis. The Senate must take this up immediately.

American sovereignty is at stake.

“Considering this Senate bill in its current form is a waste of time. It is dead on arrival. We encourage the United States Senate to reject this,” the leaders added.
