President Biden told reporters on Monday that he understands why former President Trump wants a debate between the two men. Because Trump has time.
President Trump called for a debate with Biden in a radio interview on “The Dan Bongino Show,” saying, “I want to debate him right now because we should have a debate.” NBC reported. Trump added that their discussion would be “for the good of the country.”
Asked about his remarks, Biden told reporters in Nevada, “If it were me, I would want to debate.”
“He has nothing else to do,” the president said.
Biden spoke to reporters on Monday during a visit to Nevada ahead of Tuesday’s Democratic primary.
Before leaving on Monday, he met with culinary union workers in the Vdara hotel’s employee cafeteria and then visited Number One Boba Tea in Las Vegas’ Chinatown Mall.
Trump did not participate in any of the Republican primary debates. He said in a radio interview with Hugh Hewitt in December that he was looking forward to discussing Biden.
“How about 10 debates?” he said.
Meanwhile, the Biden campaign said in December that it had not yet discussed the possibility of a debate with Trump in the general election.
Some suggested last year that President Trump’s decision not to hold a debate this election cycle would benefit Biden. Trump’s former White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany and “Fox & Friends” host Steve Doocy say Trump won’t appear in the first Republican primary debate, giving Biden a chance to debate. He said he was giving an excuse not to do so.
