Nicki Minaj Shares Reasons for Supporting Trump

Nicki Minaj, a prominent figure in the entertainment world, recently opened up about her support for former President Donald Trump, linking it to her experiences with California Governor Gavin Newsom. In an interview with Time, she expressed her frustration over being “totally ignored” by Newsom when she sought assistance regarding swatting incidents that endangered her safety.

In her discussion, she recounted previous ties to the Republican Party but mentioned that she turned to Newsom for help after incidents at his Los Angeles residence in 2022 and 2023, which she described as unjust attacks. She made her appeal via social media, but to her disappointment, received no response. “He took all the money I spent on taxes and completely ignored me,” Minaj stated.

In a twist of fate, she received assistance from Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-Florida) following another swatting attempt in 2025. Luna connected Minaj with federal law enforcement and a private protection firm and, according to Minaj, the experience was eye-opening. “I was shocked,” she admitted, noting that it was refreshing to feel valued by someone in politics.

Her encounter with Luna galvanized her to be more vocal about her support for Trump. Minaj also expressed her unease regarding former President Barack Obama’s connection with rapper Jay-Z, suggesting that Jay-Z may have negatively influenced Obama’s reputation among some in the hip-hop community. “I think Jay-Z ended up doing Obama a great deal of damage, whether he knew it or not,” she told Time.

While Jay-Z’s representatives have yet to respond to these comments, Minaj has continued to publicly support Trump and his policies, even appearing at a Turning Point USA event in December 2025 alongside Erica Kirk, the widow of Charlie Kirk.

Minaj believes that many celebrities share her feelings but hesitate to speak out. “Sometimes it takes one brave person to bear the brunt of the impact. I think I’m a catalyst for that change,” she asserted, hoping her actions will inspire others to voice their support for Trump.

“Hopefully, when they see me and hear me and feel my energy, they’ll say, ‘You know what, who am I afraid of? What am I afraid of?’” she concluded.

Minaj stands as one of the all-time best-selling female rap artists, with only Cardi B surpassing her in sales. Their rivalry has been well-documented, adding another layer to Minaj’s public persona.
