NFL bettor left with life-changing decision on $680,000 parlay

Martwon Weaver had $5 and a dream.

Some wild predictions about NFL winnings nearly cost him $680,955 in a five-leg parlay.

Based on the sportsbook’s various odds, this bet currently has a 55-65% chance of cashing in, with one leg appearing to be the most volatile.

But he wants, even needs, to sell tickets by Thursday’s NFL awards ceremony, after suffering a stroke while driving in 2022 that left him in financial trouble.

“I’m confident that my bet will pay off,” Weaver told The Post in an exclusive interview.

“I feel good. But if I can sell it, that’s good too, so it takes the ‘what if’ element out of it.” ”

Weaver is unable to cash out his bet because the sportsbook does not allow such behavior with prize bets.

Instead, he seeks to find bettors with deep pockets who will buy out his positions around market value to achieve a win-win proposition.

According to the forecastHis bet (which had less than a 0.1% chance of winning cash when wagered at +13619100 odds) is worth about $200,870.

If this bet turns into cash, it will be one of the longest-running winning sports bets of the season, rivaling several bets. least likely bet It will go down in FanDuel history.

“If it’s six figures, I’m happy to talk. It would be hard to say no,” he said. “But even if the price isn’t right, I feel good. There’s a 70, 85 percent chance he’ll get $680,000, so I can take a chance.”

Weaver predicts Lamar Jackson to win MVP (15/1), CJ Stroud to win Offensive Rookie of the Year (+700) and Christian McCaffrey to win Offensive Player of the Year (18/1). , predicted Myles Garrett to win Defensive Player of the Year. (+700) and Defensive Rookie of the Year Jalen Carter (+600), which perhaps only a time traveler could have predicted.

NFL Player of the Year odds were determined prior to Week 18 as follows:

  • Jackson MVP -20000 (99.50% implicit)
  • Stroud OROY -850 (89.47% implied)
  • McCaffrey OPOY -360 (78.26% implied)
  • Garrett DPOY -220 (68.75% implied)
  • Carter Droy -180 (64.29% implied)

Carter’s odds are why this bet is not a lock.

The Eagles defensive tackle entered Week 18 as a -1000 favorite, but by game time the stakes had dropped to -180, indicating a large amount of money was on the line for his challenger, Will Anderson of the Texans. Ta.

Members of the media are voting for the awards, and BetMGM exclusively told the Post that some voters began sharing their nominations for the awards this week. He said this shows that Carter’s negative move was due to voters leaking that they would vote for Anderson.

Weaver, a commercial truck driver from Arizona and former standout athlete at Marcos de Niza High School in Tempe, turned to startup WagerWire to help promote the sale.

They had a conversation over tickets.

“We feel Martwon is a perfect example of why WagerWire needs to be in today’s sports betting market,” WagerWire co-founder Travis Geiger told the Post. “There needs to be a place where he can sell tickets at market price. It’s a win-win.”

Weaver knows what kind of bumps soccer, or betting, can take.

He was a top-25 defensive back and wide receiver in the state of Arizona in prep. According to 247 SportsHowever, poor grades ruined his football career and he dropped out of college.

“I had a seizure while driving. It was a really bad accident,” Weaver said. “We dismantled the semi-truck and there were no scratches and no one was harmed. Thank God.”

Weaver, 31, had nowhere to go after the accident. He returned to his grandmother’s house, who had raised him.

Although he was making $3,000 a week as an independent contractor, he received no disability or health insurance benefits from his employer after the accident.

“Being a truck driver earns a lot, so I had saved up a lot of money, but it was a really tough time. I had goals like buying a house, buying a new car, buying a truck so I could work for myself. “I had a plan,” said Weaver, who is single. “It was tough, everything just fell apart in an instant. I was like, ‘I can’t just do nothing for a year.’ All in all, everything was fine, so I’m like, let’s go with this. ”

Mr. Weaver is cautiously looking for a buyer.

If tickets sell, he plans to start his own business.

He paused before thinking of the words to describe how he would feel if he picked up the ticket and won.

“Wow, that’s life-changing, dude,” Weaver explained. “I pay my grandma. I think she owes about $60,000 left on the house. She raised me, I lost my parents. If it were me… , I’ll pay my grandma a loan, buy a car, put a truck in there, and make more money doing it.”

The flip side of the coin is the dreaded outcome that every sports bettor has to deal with: getting nothing.

“If we don’t win, we just go to work. It’s been about a month since we’ve been cleared and we just go back to work like a normal day and nothing changes,” Weaver said.

Weaver will be in Las Vegas for the Super Bowl and will attend the player awards show with WagerWire founders Geiger and Zach Docter.

“It’s tough to sell. It’s hard to sleep just anticipating all of this. It’s stressful,” Weaver said. “I definitely want to ride it and I don’t want to act like I’m giving up, but at the same time I have to be smart.”
