Honda recalls 750,000 vehicles to address air bag defect

Honda announced Tuesday that it is recalling 750,000 vehicles in the U.S. due to a defect that could allow airbags to deploy unintentionally in a crash.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has announced that the passenger seat weight sensor may crack and short out, causing the airbag to no longer suppress as intended. Replace the seat weight sensor at your Honda dealer.

Vehicles affected by the recall include certain 2020-2022 model year Honda Pilot, Accord and Civic vehicles, as well as certain Honda HR-V, CR-V and Passport vehicles from the same model years.

Honda said in a regulatory filing that it had received 3,834 warranty claims and had no reports of injuries or deaths related to the issue that caused the recall since June 2020.

Honda told NHTSA that the defect may have occurred after a natural disaster affected the manufacturing plant of one of Honda’s subcontractors and the supplier temporarily changed the base material for the Seat Weight Senator’s printed circuit board. He said there is. The alternative materials used “may place additional stress on the printed circuit board,” the automaker said.

In December, Toyota announced a defect in a sensor in its occupant classification system that prevents airbags from deploying when small adults or children are seated in the front seats.
