Tetiana Martynova, refugee mom who fled war in Ukraine with teen son, dies after being struck by car in Wales

A Ukrainian mother who fled the war with her teenage son two years ago has tragically died in a car crash in Wales, it was revealed on Tuesday.

Tetiana Martinova, 40, was walking on a road in Morriston at around 6:20pm local time on Wednesday when she was struck and killed by a Chevrolet Captiva. BBC reportedThis was reported by South Wales Police.

Martynova, originally from Kharkiv, Ukraine, came to Wales with her 14-year-old son in July 2022, months after the Russian invasion began, according to the non-profit organization Voice of Ukraine Wales.

The charity said: “Tanya was a loyal and enthusiastic supporter of Voice of Ukraine Wales and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.”

Ms Matinova’s presenters told the BBC that she was known locally as an “impressive woman, multilingual, intelligent, high-flying and hard-working” and a “stellar figure” in the Ukrainian community. Told.

“Her many friends and colleagues are all shocked by the news of her sudden passing. Our thoughts and prayers are with her. [her son] Ilia is here in Wales and Tania’s family is back in Ukraine,” they told the outlet.

South Wales Police have appealed for anyone who may have witnessed the incident to come forward with information or dashcam footage.
