It looks like Andy Reid doesn’t want to hang up his headset just yet.
Speaking with reporters in Las Vegas ahead of the 2024 Super Bowl against the 49ers, the Chiefs head coach said he has no plans to step away from the sidelines anytime soon.
Reid, 65, began his coaching career at BYU in 1982, has been in the NFL since 1992, and has been a head coach since 1999.
And while Reid is in his 11th year with the Chiefs, he said he doesn’t feel it’s time to retire.
“My mom and dad taught me this at work,” Reed said. “They said, ‘You’ll know when the time comes,’ so we’re ready to go right now. Let’s go.
“They used to say that when I was younger. I was a curious kid, so I looked like that. [at it]. You’ll know the time somewhere. Today is not that day. ”
Kansas City owner Clark Hunt said: A conversation with Chris “Mad Dog” Russo He reiterated that he hopes Reed will be successful not only next year, but in future seasons as well.
“We have those conversations every year in the offseason, and it’s going to happen at the end of the year,” Hunt said. “But I don’t think he’s going to retire. He loves what he does. I know he’s energized by the team. I don’t think he’s going to retire because of Patrick Mahomes’ coaching. I know you love me.
“We have a generational quarterback in him. So I look forward to having Andy as our head coach for many years to come.”
As a head coach, Reid has now appeared in four Super Bowls, three with the Chiefs and one with the Eagles, and is aiming for his second consecutive title after defeating his old team in Super Bowl 2023 last year.
Reid’s success in Philadelphia cemented his candidacy for the Pro Football Hall of Fame with the Chiefs, where he won eight AFC West titles and four conference championships.
Although the Chiefs are a slight underdog against the 49ers, Reid is unfazed by that outlook heading into Sunday.
“Listen, we understand the reasoning behind it. I mean, we understand that too, and rightly so,” Reid told reporters. “We may not be the prettiest bunch, but we’re going to fight. That’s kind of the personality of this team.”
