Biden wins Nevada Democratic presidential primary as he moves closer to showdown with Trump

President Biden has scored a jackpot in the race for the 2024 Democratic presidential nomination, winning the state of Nevada at the ballot box for the third consecutive year.

The Associated Press on Tuesday predicted the president would win Nevada’s Democratic primary, the news agency reporting a little more than 90 minutes after voting closed in the Battle Born state at 7 p.m. local time. .

This prediction is not surprising, as Biden is the leading candidate in the Democratic primary, defeating best-selling author and spiritual advisor Marianne Williamson, who is seeking the White House for the second year in a row. That’s because it was expected.

Another rival in the Democratic primary, Rep. Dean Phillips of Minnesota, faces a steep uphill climb to the nomination, but announced his candidacy in late October, after Nevada’s filing deadline. Therefore, it was not included in the Nevada vote.

Thirty-six sworn delegates were up for grabs in Tuesday’s primary election.

“I want to thank the voters of Nevada who sent me and Kamala Harris to the White House four years ago and tonight took us one step further on that path,” the president said in a statement after predicting victory.

“We must organize, we must rally, we must vote. One day when we look back, when American democracy was at risk, we worked together to save it,” Biden told his supporters. “This is because we will be able to say that,” he emphasized.

Mr. Biden’s victory in Nevada came three days after his landslide victory over Mr. Williamson and Mr. Phillips in the South Carolina Democratic primary, receiving more than 96% of the vote.

And it came two weeks after he won 64% of the vote as a write-in candidate in New Hampshire’s uncontested Democratic presidential primary.

Biden finished second to Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders in the Nevada primary four years ago, followed by disastrous fourth and fifth place finishes in the Iowa caucuses and New Hampshire primary. He helped the former vice president get back on his feet after the war ended. Biden’s landslide victory in the next race, the South Carolina primary, propelled him toward the Democratic nomination and ultimately the White House.
