A conservative legal group has filed a federal civil rights lawsuit against the NFL over the race-based “Rooney Rule,” which requires interviews for Black people for certain leadership roles within the league’s teams.
America First Legal (AFL) has argued that the league’s race-based policies violate the Civil Rights Act of 1964, which prohibits companies from hiring based on race or other exclusionary factors. It is claimed that there is. fox news report.
In a press release announcing the application, the AFL called the rule “a disgrace” and said the Rooney Rule is a law that “prohibits employment practices that restrict, segregate, or classify applicants for employment on the basis of race.” He called it a “clear violation.” , color, and/or gender. ”
The AFL added that the rule was adopted in 2003, although it has been in place for 20 years. All that happened was that the team conducted “fake interviews with minority candidates just to check the Rooney Rule box,” he said.

“Given the limited post-season hiring window for executives and coaches, this results in fewer opportunities for similarly situated, well-qualified candidates who are not minorities,” the AFL added. Ta.
The Rooney Rule initially focused on black candidates for coaching positions, but in 2022 the NFL expanded the rule to require all 32 teams to hire women and minorities as assistant coaches as well.

The league has not made any public comment on the AFL’s allegations.
