Chicago mayor excoriates reporter’s border question

Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson slammed a reporter who asked city leaders if they planned to reschedule a trip to the U.S.-Mexico border.

“There are children going to schools where there are football matches,” Mr Johnson told reporters after being asked about his border plans. “You know, you’re all asking me as if I’m not a parent of this city. I get it, I’m the mayor, but I’m asking you to give me a date.”

Johnson met with Gov. J.B. Pritzker on Monday to discuss the city’s immigration crisis, which has seen more than 35,000 immigrants arrive in Chicago in the past year and a half, according to figures reported by local ABC television station WLS. This question was asked.

According to the report, Mr. Pritzker has provided state funding to the city to help manage the crisis and accommodate immigrants, but the money has not yet been allocated to specific projects.

In comments to reporters on Tuesday, Prime Minister Boris Johnson said all levels of government need to come together to resolve the ongoing border crisis.

“This mission will take all of us,” the mayor told reporters. “States, counties, and cities remain determined to continue challenging the federal government to respond to this international crisis.”

Johnson, who took over as mayor last May, had previously promised to travel to the U.S.-Mexico border himself to see the crisis firsthand. But the mayor canceled a visit scheduled for October, saying he would rather spend his time addressing immediate needs in Chicago and instead send a delegation of city officials.

But this week, Johnson was asked if he had any concrete plans to reschedule his visit, reminding reporters of his busy schedule in Chicago.

“Do you understand that we haven’t had a mayor like me before? I get that. I have a wife, I have kids, they have schedules. And we’re still dealing with… There’s still security to be had, there’s still people without housing.’We have to deal with it, but I still have a budget to deal with,” Johnson said. “And I’m doing all of that while raising three black children on the west side of Chicago with my black wife. I’m going to the border as soon as possible.”

The mayor’s office did not respond to Fox News Digital’s request for comment.
