Honda is recalling more than 750,000 vehicles due to the risk of improperly deploying airbags.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration provides more details in the following document: report Front and knee-level airbags can deploy even if infants or small people are present.
“In the event of a collision, passenger front airbags and knee airbags may deploy despite the presence of an occupant, and their deployment must be restrained, increasing the risk of injury,” the report said. Says.
The cause of seat weight sensor error is special.
“Due to a natural disaster at a tier 2 supplier’s manufacturing plant, the tier 1 supplier temporarily changed the substrate material for the seat weight sensor’s printed circuit board, but its intended use had not been fully verified.” reports read. “Using alternative substrates puts additional stress on the printed circuit board, which can lead to capacitor cracks and internal shorts.”
In this case, the natural disaster could be referring to the historic floods that occurred in East Asia in 2020. Autopianfloods may have caused secondary suppliers in China (producing small parts) to be unable to supply materials for an extended period of time.
The paper also theorized that the Tier 1 supplier could be “Illinois-based Aisin Electronics, a subsidiary of Japanese supplier giant Aisin and listed in the recall notice.”
Nevertheless, auto dealers will be required to “replace seat weight sensors with good parts” for a wide range of Honda vehicle owners.
