‘I Still Talk to My Therapist About That’

Actor and comedian Kumail Nanjiani reveals that there have been overwhelmingly negative reviews for Disney’s superhero movie. eternals He was so traumatized that he still talks about it to his therapist.

Kumail Nanjiani, who played the superhero Kingo in the 2021 Marvel movie releases, spoke about his trauma in a recent interview on the podcast Inside of You With Michael Rosenbaum.

“It was really, really tough because Marvel thought this movie was going to be really, really well-received,” the actor said. “So they lifted the embargo very quickly, screened it at fancy film festivals, and sent us on a huge world tour to promote the film right after the embargo was lifted.”

“The reviews were bad…I was too conscious of it,” he added. “I was reading and checking all the reviews too much.”

“As for why that movie was so badly criticized, I think there was a weird vibe in the atmosphere, but I don’t think that had much to do with the actual quality of the movie,” Nanjiani said. “Anyway, it was really difficult. At that time, I thought this was unfair for me. [my wife] Emily, I can’t work like this anymore. I started counseling very intentionally because something had to change. I still talk about it with my therapist. ”

“Emily says I’m traumatized by it,” he continued. “Emily and I had dinner with someone else from the movie and I said, ‘That was tough.’ And he was like, ‘Yeah, that was really tough,’ and we… I think everyone went through the same thing.”
