Remains of unborn fetus found washed up on Florida beach

Florida State Police death investigation after a jogger reported finding the remains of a fetus washed up on the shore.

The tragic discovery was made in Miami Beach on Tuesday, according to a statement from Miami Beach Police Officer Christopher Beth.

Police received a call from a man jogging near 79th Street around 1:30 p.m. Police responded and began cordoning off the area. Police were recorded moving the body with a shovel.

“A beachgoer observed human remains and alerted the marine rescue department. We are working closely and they were the ones who alerted the police,” Bess told reporters. Ta.

Four hours after the child was discovered, the medical examiner arrived and bagged the body for an autopsy.

“There are still a lot of steps we haven’t gotten to at the moment,” Beth said.

“The priority right now is crime scene preservation,” he added, “that’s why you see the box there, you see the crime scene tape, it’s delivered to the coroner’s office. We are able to perform an appraisal because our medical experts. ”

He said he did not know who the mother was or if she had any involvement in the child’s death.

“We don’t know what role the mother played or if she played a role in this,” he said. “We don’t know if this could be a miscarriage… There are a lot of unknowns.”

A forensic laboratory will use DNA samples taken from the baby to identify the child’s mother.

“Honestly, with the wind and rain, it’s saltwater and sand here…The medical examiner’s office is going to have to help us with this.” Beth added.
