A new progressive film that claims the Bible contains a mistranslation of the word “gay” is full of fallacies and biased arguments long rejected by the Christian church, say a celebrity who has seen the film. The apologist speaks.
That documentary, 1946claims that the 1946 Revised Standard Version translation team mistakenly inserted the word “homosexual” into the translation. 1 Corinthians 6:9, thus sparking a decades-long fight against LGBT causes in the United States, including opposition to same-sex marriage. The film claims that this verse and similar Bible verses condemn pedophilia (sex between men and boys), not homosexual sex.
Alan Schlemon of the apologetics ministry Stand to Reason watched the film and said, “The core argument is based on the same arguments that defenders of homosexual theology have made in the past.”
“The good news is that it’s easy to find fault with this movie,” he wrote in the article. blog On the Stand to Reason website. “The bad news is that many people don’t.”
Greek language (arsenokoitai) in 1 Corinthians 6:9he wrote, “appropriately condemns homosexual sex.”
Greek is “formed by combining two Greek words, Arsenmeans “male” Koitemeans “lie”.
“arsenokoitai Shlemon wrote that it literally means “a man who sleeps with men.” “It is no surprise that today’s most prominent English translation, the NIV (2011 revised edition), translates the Greek word as ‘men who have sex with men.’ Given the agreement, it’s no wonder why many translation teams (not just the 1946 RSV) have chosen to translate the Greek word as “homosexual.” ”
Furthermore, Shlemon argued, “There are many other statements in the Bible that support the prohibition of homosexuality.”
“Even if it were true that 1 Corinthians was poorly translated, that would not mean that homosexual sex is biblically permissible. In fact, that’s what I want you to believe,” he wrote. “There are several passages in the Bible that exclude or specifically condemn homosexual sex. For example: Matthew 19:4–6, Jesus teaches that marriage is the lifelong union of one man and one woman. He cites the Genesis account of creation, which presupposes sex and marriage between a man and a woman, which alone rules out homosexual sex.
“Furthermore, Jesus is particularly condemned. Porneia (“sexual immorality”) Mark 7:21 This Greek word would have been understood by his Jewish audience to mean the forbidden sexual acts of Leviticus, one of which was homosexual sex. … parable [the 1 Corinthians verse] “Even if mistranslated, the Law of Moses, the Apostle Paul, and Jesus himself teach that same-sex sex is a forbidden act, so there is nothing in the Bible’s teaching on same-sex sex. It won’t affect you.”
Contains other passages Leviticus 18:22, 20:13 and Romans 1:26–27 Homosexuality is prohibited, Shlemon wrote.
“In other words, the Bible indirectly excludes homosexual sex because of its teachings on sex and marriage, and it directly prohibits homosexual sex as a sin,” he wrote. “This is why this movie doesn’t do justice.”
Schlemon wrote that it is imperative that the church educate Christians about “the false claims of this film.”
“The Bible warns that the day will come when those who profess the name of Christ will reject his teachings,” he wrote. “It even explains why they make movies like 1946. Before he was executed, Paul told his disciple Timothy, “There will come a time when they will no longer tolerate sound doctrine.” ‘But, wanting to have their ears tickled, they will gather teachers according to their own desires, turning their ears away from the truth and turning their backs on myths. ”2 Tim. 4:3–4). Same-sex attraction is desire, filmmakers are teachers, and the Bible’s teachings on sexuality are sound doctrines they are unwilling to endure. This movie will tickle their ears, lead even more people away from the truth, and perpetuate the myth of pro-gay theology. ”

Listen: Is Alistair Begg wrong about Christians attending same-sex weddings?
Alistair Begg has come under considerable criticism in recent weeks after saying he advised a woman to attend her grandson’s wedding with a transgender person. Ms Begg gave her advice, warning that it was clear that women had not changed their minds about marriage and gender, but she also warned that reaching the hearts of those seeking the gospel was “at risk”. said. Amidst her criticism, Ms Begg has stood by her own comments. As a result, American Family Radio pulled his “True for Life” show from 1,800 radio stations. In this episode, we discuss what exactly Begg said and whether we agree with him. It also explores broader issues about the church’s relationship with the LGBTQ+ community. What does it look like to walk in grace and truth if we disagree with the prevailing culture about such basic realities?
