A top Republican strategist dismissed concerns that former first lady Michelle Obama could steal the Democratic presidential nomination from President Biden at the last minute.
“No, look, she hates politics. Read her autobiography,” said Rove. It competed against “Varney & Co.” on Fox Business Network.
“She didn’t want her husband to run for state senate. She didn’t want him to run for president. She’s not a political animal.”
There is also speculation among some prominent Republicans that Democrats are looking for a successor to Biden, who is 81 years old and is bewildered by his age and repeated gaffes and flagrant gaffes. It’s swirling.
Back in the 2020 presidential election cycle, some conservative detractors similarly floated the theory that Michelle Obama could jump to the Democratic National Convention and join the presidential ticket.
Rove, who served as President George W. Bush’s chief of staff, argued that Michelle Obama’s hypothetical candidacy would be overshadowed by concerns that she was a surrogate for her husband.
“People will say it’s Barack trying to get a third term as president, but they won’t buy that,” Rove argued.
“This is a strange obsession of the conspiratorial right, and it’s just madness, utter madness.”
Since her husband left the White House in early 2017, Michelle Obama has remained a deeply popular figure in politicsespecially the left side.
Loeb also listened to theories floating around in 2020.
“They thought somehow Biden would be pushed aside by Obama, Andrew Cuomo would be the Democratic nominee, and Michelle Obama would be the running mate,” Loeb said.
“She loves her life.”
Rove isn’t too worried about staging a last-minute entry in 2024, but he’s also not entirely sure the election is a surefire deal for Biden.
“Something inside me is going to wake up on that side and say it’s Jill Biden, or maybe his sister Valerie Biden-Owens, and say, ‘You know what? Street, Joe, this is not the way you’re going to go down in history,’ let’s step aside and let the competition choose someone else,”’ Loeb surmised.
Mr. Biden has long maintained strong support among Democrats, easily defeating strong rivals in races in South Carolina, Nevada and the uncontested state of New Hampshire.
On Wednesday, spiritual author Marianne Williamson withdrew her candidacy for the White House.
In modern times, controversial practices are extremely rare. The Democratic National Convention is scheduled to be held from August 19th to 22nd.
“Joe Biden believes he is the only Democrat in the Democratic Party who can beat Donald Trump. “He may be the only person in the Democratic Party who could lose to Donald Trump,” Rove added.
“I don’t think the Democrats are going to let this continue.”
