Van Jones: Supreme Court losing ‘a game of chicken’ with Trump

CNN analyst Van Jones claimed that former President Trump is playing a “game of chicken” with the Supreme Court and other federal agencies over voting cases and other legal battles.

“It’s just weird to me to see the system keep bending over backwards when he’s playing a game of chicken without it.” Jones said on CNN Thursday. “He’s playing a game of chicken, and every institution is changing direction, including the Supreme Court.”

The Supreme Court on Thursday heard oral arguments in a lawsuit that sought to remove Trump from Colorado’s vote because of his actions surrounding the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the Capitol. The lawsuit alleges that Trump should be disqualified under Article 14.th Insurrection Clause of the Amendment.

The justices appeared reluctant to take steps to disqualify Trump. Much of the two-hour argument consisted of the justices delving into a variety of points challenging various arguments without considering whether President Trump’s actions violated the Constitutional Amendment.

Jones said the arguments filed Thursday prove that “Mr. Trump had a good lawyer.” He said the High Court’s reluctance represented a “foregone conclusion” and would likely be “very frustrating for many people”.

“The Supreme Court is very powerful, very powerful when it takes away rights from women, very powerful when it takes away diversity programs from college students,” Jones said. “The right to vote, taken away from Americans, is very powerful. But now it’s time to disenfranchise those who disenfranchise, and they’re just looking for a way out.”

“They can come up with excuses to do whatever they want, but in this case they were trying to find a way not to do what I think a normal person who saw this would say,” Jones said. continued.

He said that if former President Obama had refused to accept the results of the presidential election and “sent 10,000 Black Lives Matter protesters” to prevent Congress from certifying the results, he would have been in prison. I argued that it would be free.

The Supreme Court is scheduled to hear President Trump’s voting case on an expedited schedule, with a decision possible within weeks.
