A Russian drone attack on a gas station in the Ukrainian city of Kharkiv killed seven people, including three children, on Saturday, local authorities said.
Kharkiv region governor Oleg Sinegubov said on the messaging app Telegram that the victims included two children aged 7 and 4 and a 6-month-old child.
An Iranian-made Shahed drone attacked civilian infrastructure in the city’s Nemishlyyan district, causing a massive fire that destroyed 15 civilian homes. Kharkiv is Ukraine’s second largest city, located in the northeastern part of the country.

“Unfortunately, the death toll from occupation forces’ attacks on Kharkov has increased to seven,” Sinegubov wrote. “Occupation forces attacked Kharkov with ‘Shahed’ suicide attack drones.”
Sinegubov said five bodies, including three children, were found in a private house. The adults were the children’s parents, Sinievov said.
Two more people, a couple aged 66 and 65, died at another facility, according to reports. “Over 50 people saved!” he wrote.
According to the Kharkiv district prosecutor’s office, three drones crashed into a gas station in the Nemyshliansky district, causing a house fire.
Video from the scene shows intense flames tearing through the building.

Kharkiv district prosecutor Oleksandr Filachikov said three drones attacked Kharkiv’s Nemyshlyansky district.
“As a result, critical infrastructure buildings were destroyed. The impact of the fire was so severe because there was a large amount of fuel,” Filachikov said in a video posted online.
The Ukrainian Air Force announced that 23 of the 31 Russian-launched drones were destroyed overnight by air defense systems. The statement said the drones mainly targeted the northeastern Kharkiv region and the southern Odesa region, according to the Associated Press.

Firefighters and rescue workers worked throughout the night to deal with the effects of the strike, extinguishing the fire and clearing debris, officials said.
Russia has previously said it did not intentionally target civilian facilities.
The attack comes as Russia marks the second anniversary of the invasion and the ongoing conflict.
