Heart-pounding new footage shows the moment three survivors flee a burning jet at full speed after it crashed on a Florida highway earlier this week, killing two others.
The trio was seen rushing out of the wreckage, which lay on Interstate 75 and was covered in bright orange flames and plumes of black smoke, a video shared. Local 10 News Show.
“Is there anyone else out there?” Kyle Cavaliere, a passing motorist who stopped to help, shouted to the survivors.
“Yes! Our pilots! Our pilots!” the woman can be heard shouting back as her colleague paces incoherently beside her.
When asked if the pilots were alive, the distraught woman replied: I don’t know much else. ”
Officials said the Bombardier Challenger 600 passenger plane, with five people on board, was about to land at nearby Naples Airport when both engines spontaneously shut down.
In a chilling audio recording from the flight, pilot Edward Daniel Murphy quietly told airport controllers just before the accident that the plane was “not going to enter the runway.”
The plane tried to land on Interstate 75, but witnesses said its wings clipped and dragged a car before slamming into a wall and causing a fatal explosion.
The Collier County Sheriff’s Office said Murphy, 50, and his co-pilot, Ian Frederick Hoffman, 65, have been identified as the two people killed in the fiery crash.
Crewmember Sydney Ann Bosmans, 23, and passengers Aaron Baker, 35, and Audra Greene, 23 — the three survivors seen running on video. — was taken to a local hospital for his injuries. Their status is unknown.
The plane took off from Ohio State University’s airport in Columbus, Ohio, around 1 p.m.
Robin King, a spokeswoman for the Naples Airport Authority, said the plane was scheduled to land in Naples around the time of the crash when Murphy called the tower requesting an emergency landing.
The plane was operated by Fort Lauderdale, Fla.-based Hop-A-Jet Worldwide Charter, according to FlightAware aircraft tracking equipment. The plane was scheduled to return to Fort Lauderdale on Friday afternoon.
An Ohio State University spokesperson said the aircraft was not affiliated with the university and had no further information.
