He will be replaced by Colonel Oleksandr Shirsky, former commander of the ground forces of Ukraine.

Lawmakers are working on a bill to authorize more aid to Ukraine as Kiev approaches two years of fighting with Russia and hopes for a fresh start in its war with Russia. The Senate voted Friday to advance a $95.3 billion package to fund Ukraine, Israel and other national security priorities.

This comes after previous efforts to provide funding to Ukraine and Israel and pass provisions on border security failed in Congress last week.
