It’s only a matter of time before Caitlin Clark sets the all-time NCAA women’s basketball scoring record, but she didn’t get there Sunday in the Super Bowl.
The Iowa State senior scored 31 points in the third quarter, but the second-place Hawkeyes opened up a 14-point lead in a shocking 82-79 loss to Nebraska on Sunday. As a result, there were no points in the fourth quarter.
Clark is eight points away from passing the 3,527 point mark set by Washington’s Kelsey Plumb in 2017.
Clark, who averaged a career-best and NCAA-leading 32.2 points per game this season, needs 39 points to surpass Plumb, the two-time WNBA champion All-Star guard for the Las Vegas Aces and wife of the Giants. Started the day. Tight end Darren Waller.
Clark will have a chance to set the record in Thursday’s home game against Michigan.

Clark scored 31 points as Iowa led 69-55 through the third quarter and was poised to set a record, including a potentially game-clinching 3-pointer with eight seconds left. He missed all six field goals in the fourth set. Nebraska outscored Iowa State 27-10 in the final 10 minutes.
