The National Hockey League (NHL), National Basketball Association (NBA), Major League Baseball (MLB), and numerous other professional sports leagues are asking Congress to tighten gun laws by reauthorizing the Undetectable Firearms Act.
On February 10, 2024, Gun Owners of America (GOA) used the X-Post to condemn the NFL, NHL, MLB, MLS, NBA, and NASCAR for their letters to Congress. They noted that college giants NCAA also signed the letter.

GOA explains more in a February 8, 2024 column published Zero Hedge said the letter was sent to Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.), Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-Louisiana), He pointed out that it was addressed to House Minority Leader Hakim. Professional sports leagues used this letter to argue that updating undetectable firearms laws is key to the safety of fans in professional sports leagues.

On February 1, 2024, Breitbart News reported that 74 members of the House of Representatives sent a letter to Speaker Johnson urging him to refuse to permanently reauthorize the Undetectable Firearms Act.
The letter began with these words:
As we head into the 2024 election year, the Republican conference will have many opportunities to prove to the American people why our party should be entrusted with continued control of the House. One of the first opportunities for Republicans to demonstrate their commitment to America will be a firm refusal to permanently reauthorize or expand undetectable firearms laws.
The letter to Johnson went on to say that the continuation of the Undetectable Firearms Act would allow the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) to redefine words and phrases that would be regulated under the law. He points out that the number of guns could expand. Activities.
