Andy Reid back to chase Chiefs three-peat in end retirement talk

LAS VEGAS — John Elway gave the Broncos a chance at a three-peat.

Even with Patrick Mahomes in his prime and three Lombardi trophies in his hip pocket, how could Andy Reid miss out on a historic three-peat in the Super Bowl era?

Vince Lombardi’s Packers won the last NFL Championship Game in 1965 and Super Bowls I and II.

Reid can’t resist the chance.

He will come back.

he won’t retire.

When asked if he could confirm that he would be back in 2024, Reid said: … of course.I’m angry [Bill] belichick and pete [Carroll]. Now I get all those questions. ”

As the final overtime showdown ended with Chiefs 25, 49ers 22, MVP Mahomes talked about chasing a three-peat with his beloved old coach by his side.

“He’s one of the best coaches of all time — I believe he’s the best coach of all time,” Mahomes said. “I mean, I know he hasn’t won a trophy yet. I have a lot of respect for some of those great coaches, but he continues to have success no matter which team he leads and wherever he is.” The way, and for me, he brings out the best in me because he lets me be myself. He’s not trying to make me somebody else. If Coach Reed wasn’t the head coach, he’s the one I’m in right now. I don’t think I could have been a quarterback like that.”

And he credited Reed with the game-winning play call.

After Isaiah Pacheco fumbled in the ninth to open the scoring, Travis Kelce ran into Reed on the sideline, enraged.

“Let me in, I’ll score,” Reed recalled, laughing. “I bump into him as much as he bumps into me. He caught me off balance.”

His wife, wearing a sparkly red outfit, proudly watched his postgame press conference.

She plans to return with him in 2024.
