A hiker missing for several days on Southern California’s towering Baldy Mountain was found dead over the weekend, authorities said.
A helicopter crew retrieved the body of Lefay Huang, 22, from the upper San Antonio Creek Falls area Sunday morning, the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department said in a statement.
On Saturday afternoon, a drone operator reported that he may have found the young woman, but conditions prevented searchers from immediately arriving at the scene, and strong winds prevented an aerial search.

The mountain towers over 10,000 feet approximately 40 miles northeast of downtown Los Angeles. It was covered with snow because of the storm.
Huang, who lives in suburban El Monte, was reported missing shortly before midnight on February 4. She left for a hike alone around 2 p.m., but she hasn’t been heard from since around 4 p.m. that day.

Heavy snow and avalanche danger hampered the search and forced the crew to retreat from the mountain.
Baldy is known to be a dangerous place in the winter, and last year claimed the lives of several hikers, including actor Julian Sands.
