Reporter’s Notebook: Remembering Baz a great newsman and friend

This is a show for the people you don’t see on FOX News, but behind the camera and behind the scenes, tirelessly helping to bring journalism to the world.

Specifically, it refers to a man named Buzz Davis (Barry John Davis). He was a leading video editor for many years and then worked as a wide-ranging producer at Fox News’ London bureau.

Buzz passed away at the age of 46. Cancer killed him. It was a hard battle, many years long, in which he did everything with spirit and determination.

Reporter’s note: Israel-Hamas war continues on deadly day for Israel, but its “determination remains the same”

The first time we worked together in the field was in 2012, when we received a surprise one-night invitation to go to North Korea to meet Kim Jong-un, the country’s official leader. Since my usual cameraman wasn’t available, I turned to Buzz, who previously worked for Fox News as a satellite dish operator. On the plane, I turned to him and asked, “By the way, have you ever used a camera?” “No,” he answered, “but I will do it.” And he was… very good to me, even when his tripod was lost at the airport.

Our next assignment was to cover a high school prom on the outskirts of London and report on the relocation of an American educational institution here.

As you can see, he actually collaborated on the widest range of stories possible.

In Ukraine, both the cities of Kiev and Lviv have gone through a very difficult period for the country and for FOX News.

Buzz was a warm and funny man who loved life and people. He enjoyed working with others, always offering a helping hand, and a quip.

He is a food expert and enjoyed the opportunity to order sushi from the hotel’s room service menu.

He loved a good political debate and would often argue with members of the bureau.

He valued music. We went to a concert together. He hated U2. I witnessed him accurately playing the opening riff of Bruce Springsteen’s “Thunder Road” on his electronic keyboard while he was at work.

In fact, it was at Glastonbury, a semi-annual Woodstock-like music festival here in the UK, that he very romantically met Sarah, the woman who would become his beloved wife.

He loved the family he was going to build. Sarah and Buzz had two very cute boys, Rex and Ned. They built a beautiful life together in a very beautiful home in Cornwall, a seaside area of England. It was also a five-hour drive from London, which made commuting difficult at the beginning and end of the week.

He was a brave man. When he was diagnosed with cancer, he endured grueling surgeries and treatments, and used Instagram to share his message about this terrible disease with the public at large, just as his caring wife Sarah saw him through it all. I tried my best to convey this to others. about his disability.

We met Buzz only about a week ago. London bureau chief Dragan Petrovich and I headed to Cornwall. It had been a while since I last saw him, and his illness had taken its toll. Buzz could barely walk and stay awake while we were together.

But when we were there, he said something very important. He had to make the most of each day. He can’t waste even a second of the time he has left. At that point, it was clear he didn’t have much time.

After a few hours he told us he had to go upstairs and take a nap. I hugged him. Dragan took him to bed. As he bids farewell to his kind, talented, and funny friend. Rest in peace, Buzz.
