The 2024 F1 season is just around the corner.
By the end of this week, each team will have at least unveiled their livery for the 2024 campaign, if not their challengers. Pre-season testing at the Bahrain International Circuit begins next week, with some drivers sharing new helmets for next season.
To that list of drivers can be added three-time drivers’ champion Max Verstappen.
The Red Bull driver shared the new season helmet on social media, pointing out that it was a bit reminiscent of when he started his racing career when he was “four years old”. There are plenty of chrome elements, including his signature lion on the top of the helmet and his three stars on the back, one for each of his titles.
The announcement comes just days before Red Bull launches its 2024 season challenger, the RB20. Given the success of the RB19 a season ago, the RB20 has some huge tires to put on. Those expecting dramatic changes from last year’s car to this season’s car should temper their expectations considering the preview Verstappen himself made while streaming with his sim racing team a week ago .
The helmet’s launch comes amid controversy surrounding Red Bull team principal Christian Horner. An internal investigation into “inappropriate conduct” is currently underway, and Horner took part in a wide-ranging interview last week as part of the investigation being conducted by outside counsel.According to multiple reports, the investigation is not expected to conclude until Red Bull releases the RB20.
