In a letter exclusively obtained by Breitbart News, Republican lawmakers asked Attorney General Merrick Garland to provide information about settlement funds that the Biden administration is allocating to questionable and unrelated third parties.
The request is important as many congressional Republicans seek to rein in the Biden administration’s preferential treatment of political allies.

Lawmakers are concerned that diverting settlement funds from victims and the U.S. Treasury to organizations chosen by Biden could lead to misuse, misappropriation or misappropriation of funds.
The Obama administration originally included the controversial system, but the Trump administration abolished it in 2017. Biden reinstated the program in 2021. In January, the Republican-controlled House passed a bill to end the practice.
Since Biden handed the program back, Republican lawmakers believe he directed a significant portion of the billions of dollars in fines and fines in Department of Justice (DOJ) settlements to third parties.
In a letter to Rep. Garland, Rep. Lance Gooden (R-Texas), Rep. Harriet Hageman (R-Wyo.), Rep. Ralph Norman (R-South Carolina), and Rep. Randy Weber The congressman, R-Texas, said Biden may have used the scheme to gain support. From their political allies:
Reports have surfaced that part of the Biden Justice Department’s settlement proposal includes a provision that would require “forced donations” to certain partisan third-party groups in exchange for reduced fines. These funds were directed to third parties and should have been deposited with the Treasury or provided to victims. One recent example is JPMorgan Chase directing a large portion of the Epstein settlement to third-party charities.
The Department of Justice’s request that defendants donate to specific organizations identified by the Department raises serious concerns of partisan conflicts of interest. The act of redirecting or substituting victim payments or requiring donations to friends of the regime instead appears to be an abuse of power to reward politically aligned special interests. In doing so, this practice deprives victims of compensation to which they are entitled. This practice also raises concerns of unconstitutional encroachment on Congress’ purse powers.
Lawmakers called on Garland to provide an explanation for the funds and disclose details about which nongovernmental organizations received the funds.
