Chiefs ‘saddened’ by ‘senseless’ Super Bowl parade shooting

On what was supposed to be a day of joy, the Chiefs were devastated by the deadly shooting at the end of their 2024 Super Bowl victory parade.

The group released a statement following the shooting, which left one person dead and 22 others with gunshot wounds, saying it was “saddened” by the tragedy that occurred near Union Station in Kanas on Wednesday afternoon.

Kanas police said in a press conference that three armed people were taken into custody following the shooting.

According to NFL Network’s Jesse Palmer:Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City is currently treating 12 patients, 11 of whom are children.

Nine of those patients have gunshot wounds.

“We are truly saddened by the senseless act of violence that occurred outside Union Station at the end of today’s parade and rally,” the team said in a statement. “Our hearts go out to the victims, their families, and everyone in Kansas City.”

“All players, coaches, staff and their families are safe and well,” the Chiefs said in a statement.

Many players on the team, including Patrick Mahomes, released their own statements in the wake of the day’s unrest.

“Praying for Kansas City…” Mahomes wrote to X. With three praying hands emoji.

Linebacker Drew Tranquil thanked those who helped the victims.

“Please join me in praying for all the victims of this heinous act.” he wrote.
