Facebook Boss Attacks Popularity of Apple Vision Pro Headset

The battle for supremacy in the emerging VR/AR headset market is heating up between tech giants Meta and Apple. Mark Zuckerberg claims that his company’s Meta Quest is a “better product for its time” when compared to Apple Vision Pro.

The Verge report Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg recently compared his company’s latest product, the Quest 3 headset, to Apple’s new Vision Pro headset in a video post on Instagram. Zuckerberg said there are several advantages the Quest 3 has over Apple’s headset, including being lighter, having a wider field of view, and offering both hand tracking and controllers as input options. emphasized the benefits.

“Not only do I think Quest is a better value, I think Quest is a better product,” Zuckerberg said. He praised Meta’s years of experience developing VR headsets and pointed out that the Quest 3 costs much less, at around $1,500 compared to the Vision Pro’s $3,000.

But it didn’t mention some key benefits of Apple’s Vision Pro, including its beautiful display and sleek design. Apple is also expected to leverage the large iOS developer ecosystem to build out Vision Pro’s content library over time. The video appears to have been filmed in a living room and gives the Facebook boss an air of desperation. Facebook’s president doesn’t want his employees to use the Metaverse, which is the company’s future.

The Vision Pro has some quirks that Apple hopes to improve, such as having to go to an Apple Store to reset a forgotten passcode. However, it also offers unique features such as Thunderbolt and Lightning connectivity. Major updates that extend Vision Pro’s capabilities may be synchronized with iPhone software releases. So it could be a while before the Vision Pro truly reaches its potential, possibly up to four generations according to some analysts.

For now, Meta’s Quest 3 remains the more mainstream and affordable option, but Apple’s entry is a strong contender in this marathon battle for leadership in the emerging mixed reality market. The tech giants are taking contrasting approaches, but given their vast resources, Meta’s early lead and Apple’s late start may not be the deciding factor.
