“My brain says, ‘That has to be him,'” Filter recalled. “I literally remember when I was tackling him, I was like, ‘I wish this was the guy they were yelling at me to get.’ ‘Cause I just said, ‘Boom!’ . …I don’t remember seeing him coming at all. ”

Filter jumped on the alleged gunman and pushed him to the ground, but the gunman managed to wriggle free.

report Paul Contreras of Bellevue, Nebraska, was with his three daughters when he heard what sounded like fireworks. But when it became clear that the crackles were gunshots and that the alleged gunman was on the run, his parental instincts kicked in.

Contreras reportedly saw another man chasing the suspect and screaming for someone to help.

“I didn’t think about it,” Contreras told KETV. “It was just a reaction. I had no hesitation. I just had to give it a go.”

“So I went to tackle him and another gentleman did the same thing,” Contreras continued. “And as I was tackling him, I could see his weapon fall out of his hand or fall out of his sleeve, because he was wearing a long jacket.”

Trey Filter’s wife, Casey, rushed toward the gun and tried to secure it after it fell to the ground, the Post reported. Filter indicated the murder weapon was an AK-47 rifle, but police have not confirmed the make and model.

“So when you see that on the ground, you’re like, ‘Oh, I know. I’ve got to beat this guy,'” Contreras added.

The Nebraska father said he and another “Good Samaritan” held on to the suspect for “what seemed like an eternity, but it was probably like…30 seconds” before police arrived.

Filter saw Contreras struggling with the suspected gunman in the dirt and quickly returned to action and began throwing punches.

“I don’t know if I knocked him unconscious when I tackled him or what, but I squeezed him so hard that for all I know he might have passed out all the time. . I just started punching him in the ribs,” he told Filter and Post. “I was just yelling, ‘Bring out the gun!'” “And I just punched him in the ribs. It was amazing. You know, America’s thing.”

While Mr. Filter stuffed the suspect’s granary with knuckle sandwiches, Mr. Contreras reportedly began plastic surgery on the suspect’s face.

“He keeps fighting to get up and run,” Contreras said. “We’re fighting each other. We’re fighting to keep him down and he’s fighting to get back up.”

After police made the arrest and a nearby witness praised the fathers’ efforts, Mr. Filter told his sons, “Bring your mother and we’ll get her out of here.”

CNN said it remains unclear whether the man who was subdued by Contreras and Filter was ultimately among the three.
