The partially edited footage was obtained by Fox News Digital from the Orange County Sheriff’s Office and was filmed on October 14, 2021, at approximately 11 a.m.

About a month ago, the disgraced legal heir left his law firm and was shot to death on a rural South Carolina road in a failed assisted suicide attempt. Months earlier, Murdaugh’s wife and son had been murdered outside the family’s hunting lodge. Last March, Murdaugh was sentenced to life in prison for their deaths.

According to arrest documents obtained by Fox News Digital, newly released body camera footage shows Orange County deputies showing Murdaugh’s late housekeeper, Gloria Sutter, who died on Murdaugh’s property in 2018. Body camera footage shows Murdaugh taking a long drink from a water bottle before being handcuffed. When the officer asked if he was armed, the detained Murdaugh replied, “I have chapstick and cigarettes.”

In the video, the officer can be heard counting out the $39 he took from Murdaugh before placing him vertically in the back seat of his patrol car.

When Murdaugh asked for prescription medication (a blue pill for “stomach problems”), the officer shook the pill into the cap of a pill bottle, poured it into Murdaugh’s mouth, and gave him a drink of water.

One of Murdaugh’s attorneys, Jim Griffin, told ABC 4 he believes the drug helped Murdaugh deal with the side effects of opioid withdrawal. ”[Murdaugh] “He had a serious diarrhea problem, and I think that’s what the medicine was for,” Griffin said.

Alex Murdaugh pleaded guilty in 2023 to 22 of about 100 charges, accusing him of murdering his wife and son and stealing up to $10 million from various organizations and victims.

Earlier this month, Murdaugh was ordered to pay $1.8 million to 16 parties, including victims of his son’s fatal boating accident at Mallory Beach in 2019 and victims of his former lawyer’s financial crimes.

Murdaugh’s defense team also requested a new murder trial, alleging that Colleton County Court Clerk Becky Hill tampered with the jury’s request for a new trial. Judge Jean Tolle denied that request last month.
