Letitia James ‘Ought to Be Brought up Before the Bar’

On FNC’s “Hannity” on Friday, Harvard Law Professor Emeritus Alan Dershowitz slammed former President Donald Trump’s civil prosecution, which resulted in more than $350 million in fines and a New York City arrest. The company was banned from operating in the state for three years.

Dershowitz asked New York State Attorney General Letitia James to appear in court.

“Professor Dershowitz, I’ll start with you,” host Sean Hannity said. “You wrote a best-selling book called Get Trump. How did you learn the title of that book?”

“I didn’t make that up,” Dershowitz replied. “It would have been nice to have been creative and original, but that’s clearly what we got from the Letitia James campaign. She should be pulled before the bar. Based on the promise of getting certain defendants. She shouldn’t have a prosecutor running a campaign. If she doesn’t get him, she’ll lose the election. It’s a variation of Stalin and Beria in the 1930s, when the KGB chief told Stalin, “That guy… Show me the crime and I’ll find the crime.” This is — show me the guy, we know who it is. She told us who it is, Donald Trump, and even if there was no real harm done, we will find you out as a fraud. ”

“Under our legal system in general, and especially under the laws of equity under jury trials, where no harm, foul, harm, or fine is imposed, it is common for multiple charges to be committed where no harm is caused. “If you have $1 million in damages, you can impose a $3 million fine. But if the damage is zero, multiply that by how many times? Whether it’s zero plus or n times, everything remains zero. So that’s outrageous. I don’t know if it will be reversed in the appellate division.”

Dershowitz added, “In a county that is 85% Democratic, most of the appellate division judges are also elected by Democrats.” “The highest court, the New York Court of Appeals, may actually come and decide that the fines in this case are significantly reduced, and there’s a good chance that will happen in this case. It says a lot about the politicization of our justice system, the weaponization of our institutions, and this is very dangerous, because if you run for office, the partisans will run for office. Because you know, it means that businessmen don’t want to run for office. We’re going to find some way to go after them, investigate them, overestimate them, etc. You know, this is a judge. He overestimates by $350 million if there is no damage, and underestimates by $18 million at Mar-a-Lago if necessary. He is willing to manipulate the numbers to get the results he wants. There just aren’t any. I hope the courts will take a very, very, very hard look at this.”
