Billy Joel reveals the 3 music icons he wants for his supergroup — and you’ll never guess who they are

What’s better than Billy Joel?

The “Uptown Girl” singer, 74, later sparked a frenzy. Talk to Howard Stern He wants to create his own supergroup of artists and already knows who they are.

“I thought I’d form a band,” Joel said on Wednesday’s episode of Shock Jock’s SiriusXM radio show. “Me, Don Henley, Sting, and maybe John Mayer on guitar.”

Stern then wondered why the band wasn’t successful, to which the Long Island native responded, “Well, we’re all busy.”

“You always say to other people, ‘Yeah, let’s meet on the street, let’s go together,’ but you never do that,” Joel joked.

The singer also said he speaks to Paul McCartney “a lot” but “doesn’t have the guts” to ask the British icon to join his fantasy group.

“I can’t. He was part of the greatest group of all,” Joel said, referring to the Beatles.

Since then, the Grammy Award winner has continued to announce singers he would like to have in his orchestra.

The “Just the Way You Are” hitmaker released his first single in 17 years, “Turn the Lights Back On,” earlier this month.

He also performed the song at the 2024 Grammy Awards on February 4th.

Just hours earlier, he hit the red carpet at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles with his wife Alexis Roderick and two young daughters, Della Rose, 8, and Remy Anne, 6. walked.

He told carpet correspondents Amanda Kloots and Arena Vision at the time that he loved his songs but hated the writing process.

“I’m going to go into a cave and become a caveman,” he said. “It’s not a fun process for me. It’s very self-centered, very lonely. And sometimes it’s torture.”

“But then I like to write,” he continued, adding, “Performing can be a bit of a pain, too.”

What advice would you give to young musicians? “To write about something, you have to go through a lot of things. Write what you know,” Joel explained.
