Awards season is in full swing. Next up is the British Academy Film Awards (BAFTA).
The British Awards Show kicks off on Sunday, recognizing the best films in cinema over the past year. Following BAFTA will be the coveted Academy Awards ceremony on March 10th. Many films that are nominated in one organization also get nominated in the other, but they often get the scorn that deserves the buzz.

1. Where is BAFTAS?
BAFTA will be held at London’s Royal Festival Hall on Sunday 18th February.
The first event at the Royal Festival Hall was in 2023. Previously, ceremonies were held at the Royal Albert Hall.
Other locations where the event has been held in the past include the Odeon Cinema and the Royal Opera House.
2. Who is the organizer of BAFTA?

The Scottish actor is known for his work on the science fiction series Doctor Who.

Jonathan Ross and Stephen Fry took turns in hosting duties over the years, with Fry hosting from 2002 to 2006, Ross hosting from 2007 to 2011, and Fry from 2012 to 2017. I have returned.
Since then, new entertainers have taken over hosting duties, including Graham Norton, Rebel Wilson and, in 2023, Richard E. Grant and Alison Hammond.
3. Where can I watch BAFTA?
In the UK, BAFTA will be shown on BBC One. The red carpet will also be streamed live on the BAFTA YouTube channel.
If you’re watching in the US, the show can be streamed on BritBox.
4. Do BAFTA winners have to be British?
BAFTA winners do not have to be British, but there are several categories dedicated to British works and professionals.
British film-ness is a much-debated topic, and raised some eyebrows, particularly when Gravity won Best British Picture in 2014. Many speculated as to how this space film could be considered a British film, but as it turns out, it meets the appropriate requirements.

According to the BBC, BAFTA rules state that for a film to be considered British, it must be an example of “excellent original British filmmaking”.
Academy Awards scandal and drama over the years: From the infamous mockery to Will Smith’s slap
The BFI culture test is used for film assignments. A project must score 18 out of 35 points to be considered a British film.
Examples of questions in this culture test include whether British locations are used and whether the cast and crew are British.
There are only a handful of BAFTA categories designated exclusively for British films, including Outstanding British Film and Outstanding Debut by British Writers, Directors and Producers.
5. Who are the BAFTA nominees for 2024?
BAFTA and Oscar nominations usually go hand in hand. This is because both awards recognize outstanding films. This year, for example, “Oppenheimer” led the Oscar and BAFTA nominations, with 13 nominations each.
“Poor Things” received 11 Oscar and BAFTA nominations.

While the two events have some similarities in terms of nominations, there were also some surprises. It was a shock that Barbie was not nominated at the BAFTAs. The film was not included in the Best Film category at the BAFTAs, but is eligible for an equivalent award at the Oscars.
Lily Gladstone is a front-runner for the Best Actress Oscar for her performance in Killers of the Flower Moon, but was left out of the category at the BAFTAs.
‘Oppenheimer’ starring Matt Damon, Emily talks about being neighbors and things they never do together
Although the British film Saltburn was not nominated for an Oscar, it received numerous BAFTA nominations, including Outstanding British Film. Barry Keoghan, Rosamund Pike and Jacob Elordi will also receive awards. A performance of Murder on the Dancefloor by Sophie Ellis-Bextor will also be part of the BAFTAs. The song originally came out in her 2001, but the number of streams skyrocketed after the release of “Saltburn.”
