Brooklyn’s 75th Precinct, which includes East New York and Cypress Hills, was next with 129 injuries.

Patrick Hendry, president of the Police Benevolent Association, called the violence against NYPD officers “a full-blown epidemic.” It added: “Even the simplest citations are turning into all-out brawls. Our justice system needs to send a clear message once and for all that if you assault a police officer, you will stay in jail.”

The number of police officers injured by suspects jumped 20% in 2022, with 4,724 uniformed officers injured in attacks, compared to 3,933 in 2021. The number of attacks in 2023 was 5,363, an increase of 13% from the previous year (4,737).

In the fight with cops, cops are looking for greener pastures.

Former NYPD Lt. Rob Corbett, 50, was assaulted and bloodied during the George Floyd protests/riots in May 2020.

He was struck in the face by a flying brick while trying to keep the peace near the Barclay Center in Brooklyn and later in Clinton Hill.

Corbett, who required stitches and extensive dental work, retired in April 2022 after 25 years on the job and went to Florida, where he is now a police officer near Orlando.

“could not [the NYPD job] Given the state of the law and the changes in the law, that’s no longer possible,” Corbett told the Post this week. “So it wasn’t a profession, it was just a place where I was doing that profession.”

Corbett, who has two children, a 12-year-old boy and a 14-year-old girl, said her new job gave her a new perspective.

“It’s much friendlier here. You know, it’s a better place to be a police officer and the laws are much better here,” he explained. “I gave up my position and started from scratch with a significant reduction in seniority. But the quality of life is a million times better.”
