Two Minnesota police officers and a paramedic were shot and killed Sunday morning while responding to a domestic violence incident.
Minnesota Governor Tim Walz Said Early Sunday morning in Burnsville, Minnesota, police officers and first responders responded to a “call of a family in danger.”
Dakota County dispatch officials said they were responding to a “weapons incident.”
Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives Said The agent also responded.A “domestic related shooting” in Burnsville, about 24 miles south of Minneapolis.
“Neighbor Jason Skog said he heard what sounded like firecrackers or flashes and what sounded like gunshots around 5 a.m. Police said they asked residents to shelter in place.” said. WCCO-TV.
The newspaper reported that two police officers and a paramedic were killed in the shooting.
WCCO noted that there were fire trucks, ambulances, police and SWAT vehicles at the tragic scene. One of the SWAT vehicles reportedly had multiple bullet holes in its windshield.
Minnesota Sen. Amy Klobuchar wrote: X Social media A platform where a total of three police officers were shot dead between them.”His job was to “protect our community.”
Waltz said, “We must never take for granted the courage and sacrifice that our police officers and first responders make every day. My heart is with their families today and the entire state of Minnesota stands with Burnsville. ”
Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara Asked“Please keep the Burnsville Police Department in your prayers this morning.”
Minnesota State Police Peace Officers Association Said“We are heartbroken. The law enforcement community is also heartbroken. We are devastated by this terrible loss. These heroes are remembered for their loved ones and their courage and dedication to keeping Minnesotans safe. He left behind a community that will never be forgotten.”
Congressman Jim Nash said“My heart is heavy for the families of these police officers, the community of Burnsville, and our country because this headline is not unique.”
Secretary of State Steve Simon declared“It’s sickening and shocking. I’m praying for these first responders, their families, and the Burnsville community.”
Congresswoman Betty McCallum Added“This morning we received some terrible news from Burnsville. It is heartbreaking for the department and the entire community.”
Walz ordered flags to be lowered to half-mast starting at sunrise Monday.
