British Labor Party leader Sir Keir Starmer on Sunday called for a ceasefire “now” between Israel and Hamas terrorists in the Gaza Strip.
Attending the Scottish Labor Party conference in Glasgow on Sunday, Sir Keir Starmer once again tried to nudge the issue of Israel, calling for a ceasefire in the civil war, but he did not attack the far left and Islamists in his support base. There wasn’t. You probably hope so.
sir kia Said According to the BBC, the fighting “needs a ceasefire that lasts…not just for now, but permanently.” This is what has to happen now. The fighting must stop now. ”
However, the Labor leader appears to be making a distinction between “now” and “immediate” ceasefires, calling for an “immediate” ceasefire as called for by the Scottish Labor Conference in Saturday’s motion.
The issue will be pursued further next week by the left-wing separatist Scottish National Party (SNP), which is expected to vote in the House of Commons on Wednesday for an immediate ceasefire.
Mr Starmer urged his party to reject an earlier motion calling for an immediate ceasefire, but 56 of his own MPs defected and several members of the shadow government resigned in protest. It is unclear whether the Labor leader will issue similar marching orders to MPs this week.
Mr Starmer is trying to distance Labor from its history of anti-Semitism scandals that plagued his predecessor Jeremy Corbyn in a bid to convince Britain’s centre-right voters that his left-wing party is worthy of governing.
But despite Starmer’s “zero tolerance” stance, the party has been embroiled in another anti-Semitism scandal over the past month.

Labor on Monday withdrew its support for candidate Azhar Ali in this month’s Rochdale by-election over leaked comments claiming that Israel had deliberately given the “green light” to kill Islamist Hamas terrorists. Then he announced. The October 7 attack on southern Israel left more than 1,200 people dead and another 250 taken prisoner.
The next day, the party also suspended Graham Jones, the former Labor MP for Mr Hyndburn, who is trying to win back his old seat. It was revealed that in a meeting with Ali, Jones referred to the Jewish state as “fucking Israel” and argued that British nationals who had volunteered to join the Israel Defense Forces fighting Hamas terrorists should be “locked on.” He was suspended from the party. Up”.
The two scandals come just two days after the party suspended Kate Osamour after the party insisted that on International Holocaust Remembrance Day, Palestinians who died in the conflict between Hamas and Israel should also be commemorated. It happened a week later. She described the conflict as a “genocide.”
Mr Starmer’s relatively quick decision to distance the party from the three politicians stands in contrast to Labor under socialist Jeremy Corbyn, who was accused of covering up anti-Semitism within the party.
Mr Starmer’s zero-tolerance of anti-Semitism is likely to win centrist support in the general election, but risks further alienating the Muslim community, one of the party’s most reliable voters. However, support for Labor among British Muslims has fallen by more than 40 points since the last election, as Mr Starmer previously supported Israel’s efforts to root out Hamas terrorists in the Gaza Strip.
