Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley on Monday called former President Donald Trump “weak” for his handling of Russian President Vladimir Putin and criticized Alexei Navalny, who many world leaders have blamed on Putin. He pointed out former President Trump’s silence in the wake of his death.
In an interview on Fox News’ “Fox & Friends” on Monday, Haley was asked by Steve Doocy if she and President Trump agree on Russia, to which she replied, “Absolutely not.”
“I mean, it’s amazing to me how weak-kneed he is when it comes to Putin. If you look at the facts, he still hasn’t said anything about Mr. Navalny’s death,” Haley continued. , quickly added, “Mr. Putin killed him. That’s what he does to his political opponents.”
Haley said Trump should focus more on global threats to U.S. security and instead “say nothing.” All he does is rant late at night about his own trial. ”
“And Steve, that’s the problem. The Russians are sitting there doing something. They’re surrounding the Baltic states right now, but if they go into the Baltic states and invade, NATO countries,” Haley said. “This puts America at war. We have to stop the war.”
“What we have to focus on is how do we protect Americans? How do we prevent war? How do we secure our borders? How do we get our economy back on track? Can he do that? It’s not his personal grievance.”
Russia’s prominent opposition leader Navalny died in prison on Friday, Russia’s Federal Prison Service said in a statement, adding that Navalny died after falling unconscious after taking a walk. He was serving a 19-year sentence in a maximum-security prison near the Arctic Circle for extremism charges, which Navalny and U.S. officials dismissed as politically motivated.
The news has raised concerns of foul play from leaders around the world, and Haley is one of many public figures to blame Putin for Navalny’s death.
“Make no mistake about it: President Putin is responsible for Mr. Navalny’s death. President Putin is responsible. What happened to Mr. Navalny is a further example of Mr. Putin’s brutality,” Biden said at a press conference on Friday. “No one should be fooled,” he said, adding that while the exact cause of Friday’s death was unknown, it was “certainly the result of what President Putin and his thugs did.” he added.
Shortly after Haley’s interview on Fox News, Trump publicly posted about Navalny’s death on his Truth social platform, linking the tragedy to political discontent in the United States.
“With the sudden death of Mr. Alexei Navalny, I have become increasingly aware of what is happening in this country. It is slow and steady progress and crooked radical left politicians. , prosecutors, and judges lead us down a path to destruction. Open borders, election fraud, and wildly unfair court decisions are destroying America. We are a nation in decline. , We are a failed nation! MAGA2024”, Trump I have written.
In response to Haley’s interview, President Trump’s press secretary said in an email statement to The Hill, using the nickname for Trump’s main opponent, “Nicki ‘Birdbrain’ Haley is a self-employed… He is a loser who brags about “defeating 12 people” even though he can do it.” He will win one state in this election. ”
