According to Texas State Police, the homeowner chased the man He believed he had stolen a barbecue pit and then shot him dead.
Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said officers responded to a report of a deceased man outside a home in Humble.
Gonzalez said the homeowner realized someone had stolen the barbecue pit trailer and chased it in his car.
The man chased the suspect and confronted him a short distance from his home.gonzalez Said The homeowner believed the suspect was reaching for a gun and feared for his safety, so the homeowner shot him.
Another person was in the suspect’s car, but police said no charges have been filed against them.
“The homeowner cooperated with investigators and provided a detailed statement about the incident,” Gonzalez said.
After police complete their investigation, the matter will be transferred to the Harris County District Attorney’s Office, which will present it to a grand jury to consider charges against the homeowner.
Humble is a city of approximately 21,000 people located approximately 40 miles northeast of Houston.
